Disordered Eating

It isn’t about the food… but it’s about the food?!

That’s exhausting and confusing!

I need a plan… but I can’t “restrict” myself to certain items.

I know what works, I’m just not being tough enough with myself… if I just bear down a little more, I can lose this weight and be happy.

It’s a “frenemy.” It’s been there a while. It’s known to you, but it doesn’t ever work or operate in your best interest.

The reality is that you’re trying to soothe yourself by using food.

No matter what you call it…

Binge-eating disorder…

Anorexia…

Bulimia…

Disordered eating…

You know you don’t have a healthy relationship with food.

You feel out of control when it comes to food… and you are overwhelmed…

You overeat, or you restrict calories, or… it’s a pendulum swing between the two extremes.

By uncovering the anxiety that is driving your thoughts and actions, the fear about acting “normal” around food begins to fade away!

Is any of this in your heart or mind as you start this journey?

Sometimes I look at my reflection and hate my body.

I feel fat… or when I feel like breaking out of that feeling, I’m scared that I will be fat if I change the way I relate to food.

When I finally lose weight, I’ll feel better about myself, but I’ll be embarrassed that people will notice.

If I stop purging, I will be too scared to eat.

I’ve been unhappy for a long time.

I want to stop these bad eating habits – gorging, dieting, restricting – but I don’t know where to start.

I feel in control when I binge, purge, develop a perfect and detailed eating plan down to the exact calorie/balance, or exercise excessively.

You’ve visited blogs, read articles, and done the reading. Article after article… it just doesn’t feel like there’s a real solution. There are so many resources focusing on health, weight, and diet, but they seem to leave you wondering…

Is there a real solution??

Don’t spend another moment obsessing about food.

In therapy together, it’s important to feel like you’re in a place where you can speak freely, which means a trusting and friendly environment. The open way I provide therapy lets clients know that they can put words to hard and scary things.

I want to help you discover your eating’s underlying emotional causes in a kind and safe way – one that stretches but doesn’t strain you.

I’ll help you view food as fuel for our life’s activities. As we explore and learn about the things that have kept you “stuck” previously, those previous messages that feel like they’re never going to let go start easing up their grip. Like when we were young and there was a scary shadow behind the door at night, we could see and process what was behind that fear when we turned on the light.

Through our therapy together, the light can shine on your own “scary” and illuminate how you move toward healing, confidence, and peace.

You’ll learn to let go of terms like “good, “bad,” and “safe.” By uncovering the anxiety that is driving your thoughts and actions, you begin to put into practice the strategies you learn as we work together. The fear about acting “normal” around food begins to fade away!

We’ll also look at how you may be linking anxiety or fear to unhealthy coping with food. In therapy, we’ll be striking down the reign of negative thoughts and fears and finding comfort and joy in things within and outside yourself.

Through therapy, you can learn to appreciate and love yourself: body, mind, and soul.

Deep down, you know it’s time to act.

Are you ready to gently start uncovering the emotional cause of your disordered eating and heal it?

How would it be to feel safe and in control of your eating and your life by identifying, recognizing, and releasing old triggers?

Now, you may be thinking, “Oh, is that all?” as your inner compass flashes a red alarm light telling you that you’re not ready – that it’s too hard.

Yeah, it’s hard… but isn’t continuing to follow a path that you’re dissatisfied with? Maybe it’s time to “choose your hard.” You can face your emotional challenges and bring them out of the shadows to deal with them head-on.

Is it worth it? Not only is it worth it…YOU are worth it.
