Anxiety

The “static” in the background…

Am I good enough?

Will life always be like this?

Is it too late to start?

Kids, husband, and/or your job have taken center stage –

Meanwhile, YOU – are lost.

Your authentic voice? A barely audible whisper. Your internal compass? Failing.

You can’t remember the last time you felt unburdened, not second guessing yourself. Feeling happy doesn’t even seem like it’s on the menu.

Where have YOU gone?

Something’s GOT to change.

When you’re not angry with yourself for “letting” things get this way, you’re exhausted from the chatter in your head that follows you to bed at night.

I spend so much time preparing for life, yet I’m disappointed because my plans always get thrown off.

Sometimes things seem pretty good, but I feel weighed down with blurred focus – not able to live in the moment.

When you’re not angry with yourself for “letting” things get this way, you’re exhausted from the chatter in your head that follows you to bed at night.

That static in your mind makes you feel frozen and unable to make decisions… before you know it, you’re feeling stuck again, and there’s no progress.

This is when it’s time to get help…

When anxiety keeps you from living your life and doing the things you love.

Anxiety is exhausting: It’s an internal battle that takes everything out of you and leaves nothing for the things you’re passionate about or the people you love.

You want your friendships to be deeper, and they’ve been moving in the wrong direction… you’ve even rehearsed upcoming opportunities and how they might play out better.

You want to be close… but marriage has settled into two people living under the same roof with paths that rarely converge.

You want to remember you again – the “you” with hope in your heart for the future and the now.

Let me guess: you already use strategies to help deal with it?

If you do but they’re not helping, you’re not alone. You can’t “solve” something that’s been plaguing you for decades by “noticing your breath.” (I’m not saying it doesn’t help; it’s just not a stand-alone solution.)

This may sound weird, but the core anxiety is not feeling safe.

Sometimes it’s physical safety, but a lot of the time it’s emotional safety. You’re not comfortable in some of the thoughts and feelings you have, so it seems too risky to even dare to try things.

The big question: How do we get rid of it?

Anxiety, like any other emotion, is ours to learn about and manage.

Something will always go wrong… that’s a given. So, it’s not about controlling your environment. It’s about trusting yourself to get through the hard moment.

This is the work: learning to relax and just “be.”

We’ll get there together. This is what we’ll do…

We’ll start by validating your feelings.

They may feel unreasonable or incomparable in the context of your life right now, but if we spend some time, they’ll make sense based on your previous experiences. You get to acknowledge them when they’re there, and we’ll get to treat them like they matter.

Sometimes, we’ve been programmed with “shoulds” about our feelings.

I “shouldn’t” worry about that; it was years ago. I “should” really get over feeling angry about things that I felt like were unfair in my family.

We’ll look at what it is that you’re afraid of… and learn to guard against it.

Somewhere along the line, you learned that something was at risk or in danger. That can be uncomfortable and isn’t easy… but we’ll look at it safely and confidentially in therapy together.

We’ll look at your history, identify trauma and its potential influences, and we’ll build a supply of self-care tools that are right for you as well as coping skills to manage anxiety.

As we do, we’ll untether you from negative attachment patterns and limiting belief systems that have been holding you back and practice mindfulness skills for judgment-free personal inquiry and self-reflection.

You’ve made it this far. You looked for a therapist…

That takes courage. Now is the time to take the next step.
